Student Schedules and OCDSB Calendar
While our schedules are flexible and can change week to week, please click below to see a general outline of the Grade 5 and 6 schedules. The OCDSB school year calendar is a board-wide elementary calendar of holidays and special days for the 2020-2021 school year.
Homework
This year, I will not be giving formal homework. Why? There is a general lack of evidence showing a correlation between regular homework and student success in the elementary years. Rather, we ask that you spend your evenings doing things that ARE proven to correlate to student success: eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, pack a healthy lunch and get your child to bed early.
Throughout the year, there WILL be periodic and purposeful things we will ask you to do at home with your child.
These may include:
If you in particular wish to have more homework, please feel free to read with your child in both French and English, or pick up a review workbook (ex. JumpMath, etc).
You may also ask your child to bring home their subject duotangs at any time - just please make sure you return them in time for the next day's class. Regular review of the concepts we are learning in class is very helpful!

These may include:
- Finishing up work that was not completed in class
- An occasional math review assignment (if deemed necessary)
- Specific practice for your child if he/she is having difficulty in an area
- Previewing an online video to be prepared for a topic we will be discussing in class
- Continuing on an inquiry we are working on in class
- Work on our "Work at Home" Google Classroom page (if your child wants to do optional work while they are away from school)
